In order to ensure rapid communication with rescue services also for people with special needs, such as speech disorders, or in emergency situations when it is not possible to make a voice call to the single emergency number 112, the Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior in cooperation with the State Police and the State Fire and Rescue Service has improved the mobile app “Mana drošība”. The mobile app is an online tool for communicating with operational services, as well as for reporting traffic accidents or violations and crime in the Internet environment. The “Send my coordinates and text message to the rescue service” section of the “Emergency call” section of the “Mana drošība” application automatically sends the coordinates of the person's location to the rescue service, as well as there is the possibility to start correspondence with the rescue dispatcher, so if the person is not able to report verbally the details of an emergency, as well as unable to name or doesn’t know his or her whereabouts. It provides the ability to pinpoint a person's location using information provided by GPS. To determine the exact location on your smartphone, the GPS function must be activated, if the person has not activated it themselves, the application will remind them about it. Upon receipt of the text message, the rescue service will respond immediately. It is important to remember that if a person is in an accident and needs help, it is not enough to just send the person's location coordinates - the person must also send a text message or call the rescue service, the coordinates are an additional tool to facilitate services and help the rescue services get to the person faster. To use the function to send a text message or make a call while providing the coordinates of your location, a person needs to download the “Mana drošība” mobile application to their smartphone. After the download, the person is asked to enter the basic information about themselves and their dependents. When entering the information, it is also possible to indicate information about the person's state of health, for example, whether the person has speech or hearing impairments, etc. The aim of the application “Mana drošība” is to ensure the safety of every inhabitant of Latvia both in road traffic and in the Internet environment. In addition to the ability to send messages and coordinates, the mobile application “Mana drošība” includes several features that can be useful for every citizen. The “Road Safety” section provides information on how to deal with the different situations that any road user may encounter. In turn, the section “Internet Security” is dedicated to security issues related to the Internet environment. To take care of our own and our fellow people's safety, we invite everyone to download the application “Mana drošība” on their smartphones in Google play and App Store stores. Please note that the mobile app does not replace the single emergency number 112. * The application was developed in accordance with the requirements of Directive (EU) 2018/1972 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the establishment of a European Electronic Communications Code. |
